Steel and service. Discipline and mercy

Today we honor His Excellency, Chevalier Colonel John J. Halloran, Jr., USA (Ret), GCLJ, KMLJ, Vice Chancellor for Administration of the Grand Priory of America—a soldier whose life proves that the highest form of command is service.

Decorated in the uniform of the Order of Saint Lazarus, Colonel Halloran has lived two vocations shaped by the same principle: you protect what is sacred, and you stand beside those in need.

His journey into the Order began not with ceremony, but with quiet fidelity—driving and assisting H.E. The Chevalier Truman Stacy, GCLJ, OMLJ. “Now that you are here, you should join,” he was told. Once he understood the mission of Saint Lazarus, he did.

One moment confirmed it. At the Imperial Calcasieu Delegation’s first Givers Candlelight Celebration, honoring organ, tissue, and cornea donors, he witnessed the profound impact of charity lived in action. In that glow of candlelight, he knew: this Order changes lives.

His hope is simple and bold:

That all splintered branches return under one Saint Lazarus banner.

His guiding words:

“You are never so tall as when you stoop to help someone in need.”

A retired U.S. Army Colonel.

A Master of Science in Pastoral Ministry.

A Lazarite for over two decades.

Strength joined to humility.

Leadership joined to service.

Chivalry joined to mercy.

This is what it means to bear the Cross of Saint Lazarus.
